Actions speak louder than words

Bjorke poured over the book, looking at the ranks and troops. A few promotions were in order, it seemed. She would have to conduct reviews. She nodded to herself and reached for her tankard, wondering if she would ever get used to the taste of water. Bjorke sighed, and sat back in her chair. “I wonder what Garnil is up to now… I bet he’s having a grand time cracking skulls,” she thought to herself.

Her hand went back to the plain envelope she had found in the mail. I have been watching you, and am intrigued by your beauty…. It seemed she had a secret admirer, one who enjoyed love poetry, at that. She chuckled, then read the poem again. He certainly did have a way with words.

Looking up, she noticed Boran standing in the doorway, grinning at her. He swaggered up to her and Bjorke smiled broadly. He certainly had confidence. Boran looked down at the book, then at Bjorke.

“Who put you in charge of the books?” His hearty laugh rang through the empty tavern.

“A bit like the fox watching the henhouse, eh?” She joined in his laughter, a welcome release from her new pressures of command. She slipped the note into the back of the book.

Picking up her tankard, he sniffed at it. “Gone off the juice?”

Bjorke shrugged. “It’s all the same – water, juice. None of it tastes like anything.” Bjorke motioned to a chair, but Boran moved behind her, placing his hands on her shoulders.

“My, babe. You are really tense.” He began to rub her shoulders, digging his strong fingers into the tight muscles. He bent down to kiss her neck, whispering, “I know just how to relieve that tension, babe.” His breath was hot on her skin, but it sent chills down her back. Bjorke moaned softly, letting her head fall to the side, enjoying the sensations. “Let’s go to your place. You can give me orders.”

She sat on the edge of the bed, stretching her arms over her head. Her back and shoulder muscles were much more relaxed. Looking behind her, she saw the strong, mighty warrior sound asleep, a silly grin on his face, and she laughed. He stirred, reaching his arms out for her. He opened one eye when he did not find her next to him.

“C’mere,” he whispered huskily.

“I should get back to work.” Her voice didn’t sound quite as firm as she wanted.

“Later.” He pulled her down to him, and kissed her deeply, not accepting any arguments. A little more time wouldn’t hurt, she thought to herself.
