“Thank you for coming, Brother. Her wounds are more than I can heal.”

“Anything for you, Brother. Or for her.”

Silvas entered the small house, and crossed over to where Bjorke lay on a low bed, her face pale, her breathing labored and raspy. He knelt and placed his hand on her head. Lowering his head, he concentrated and channeled healing energies into her.

As the healing light flowed over her, Bjorke let forth an unearthly wail, and her body writhed in agony. Silvas stopped, and her body collapsed on the bed. Edrick stood back, giving his friend room to work, but feeling completely helpless.

“Hmm. I have not seen that happen in a long time.” Silvas thought for a moment, then tried a different type of energy.

This time, Bjorke moaned softly. Her eyes fluttered and her lips moved, soundlessly. Encouraged, Silvas cast the same energy over her, bathing her in soft light. A whisper of sound this time, as her mouth moved. “Shu…. Prekr.”

Silvas looked at his friend. “Do you know these words?”

Edrick’s face lit up as he recognized the words. “She says the Laws.”

“Eskor…”

“I am here, Bjorke,” Edrick spoke to her in Althoin.

Silvas channeled another wave of energy over her, then stood back. Her eyes opened, and she looked at Silvas, frowning. “Eskor?”

Edrick stepped forward, and knelt, taking her hand in his. “I am here.”

The tenderness in his voice, and his Althorin words were music to her ears, and she smiled. “You came for me.”

“I would go to the Pit and back for you, my love.”

Bjorke coughed again, violently, then began to shiver. Edrick pulled up the blanket from the foot of the bed to cover her, then pulled his own fur rug from his pack to lay over her. He dipped a cloth in a bowl of water, and cleaned her face. “I will bring you fresh clothes, Bjorke.”

“She should rest now, Edrick. I will stay with her until you return.”

Edrick nodded, the look on his face showing he did not want to leave at all. He bent down, and kissed her gently on the forehead before leaving. Bjorke smiled, then drifted off to sleep. Edrick looked at his friend. “Thank you, again, Brother.”

Silvas smiled. “It was my honor. She will be fine. I will stay with her.”

Edrick forced himself out the door, promising to return as quickly as possible.
