Cavernous Time
“Hey, no! Don’t light Pyry’s tail on fire!”
Bjorke laughed, and heard Feera’s voice once more over the comm. “It’s not funny, Marshal…”
“Yes it is, she’s not mine…” Bjorke smiled, thinking of the antics she had put up with, so long ago.
“Lucky…” Feera’s voice whispered, barely audible.
Atolli, already appearing to be almost toddler size thanks to the mixture of human and elf blood, giggled into the stone at the voice on the other side.
“I miss taking care of her…” Bjorke said softly, making Feera snort.
“Then maybe I should pawn her off on you while I head to the Caverns of Time.” The hunter scoffed.
“That’s not a very safe place to head, Feera…” Bjorke frowned, and her consternation colored her tone of voice.
“Oh, I know. But Pyry’s good at keeping track of kids as long as they don’t keep lighting her on fire.” Pyry yowled in the background.
Bjorke turned her attention back to her herbs. Supplies were getting low, and she was making an inventory, deciding where to go next to gather. Sungrass and Blindweed were the lowest. She was planning out her day’s gathering route when the comm. crackled again.
“… Man, that took forever… Uh-oh.”
“What is it, Feera?” asked Jiv’undus at the same time Bjorke voiced her concern, wondering what had befallen the hunter.
“Oh, don’t worry Feera… If Atolli got dirty, you can just wash her…”
“No, I can’t find Atolli at all.”
The silence stretched out.
“She’s gone.” The voice echoed in Bjorke’s head, and she felt the world go black.
